Nifty Thrifty Goodness
It’s Thursday, which means it’s almost Friday, which means you’re almost to the weekend! Life is beautiful here in NYC! It’s going to be 70 degrees and sunny for three whole days! Yay!
I don’t know about you, but sunny weather makes me want to shop- which, of course, is no bueno on my bank account. To keep it all in balance, I’ve dedicated Thursdays to “Thrifty Thursdays” and will post about fantastic products, stores, and websites that are green, cruelty-free, and not going to break our bank accounts.
Today’s post is about Priscilla Woolworth, heir to the Woolworth legacy, and dubbed “The Merchant of Greenness” in an article in Body + Soul Magazine. Her online store is priscillawoolworth.com and sells green and fair-trade goods. She’s even designed a few of them herself.
Take a look and share your thoughts! Thursdays just got even better!
Welcoming Bee Good Now Into The World!!!
Hellloooooo!!! I am so excited to write my first post at beegoodnow.com! When trying to decide what to write about (there are sooo many ideas..aaahhhhh!!!) I realized I am giving life to this site during Mother’s Day week….. so in honor of mothers everywhere I will be putting the spotlight on Bee Good moms and mommy products for the next few days. In the meantime, for those of you who haven’t purchased your Mother’s Day gift yet, take a look at katescaringgifts.com. I sent my mom a gift basket last year and she loved it! And she isn’t the only mom who appreciates it… Mother Earth does too! Kate’s Caring Gifts offers a wide selection of Earth friendly, and sustainably manufactured gifts that range from fair trade teas and coffees to vegan chocolates to natural pet care for your pets! I love that they offer free Earth Friendly gift wrap and personalized message with your order.

There are numerous sites out there that offer sustainable gift ideas… even better yet, moms always appreciate thoughtful home-made gifts that let them know how much you care! And if you insist on sending mom flowers, remember to send local, organic flowers. Why? According to Amy Stewart, author of Flower Confidential: The Good, The Bad and the Beautiful in the Business of Flowers (Algonquin Books, 2007), approximately 80 percent of flowers purchased in the U.S. are imported and may have been treated with chemicals and pesticides. Not to mention unfair wage practices in many parts of the world for the growers. For more information about fair trade Certified flowers and how to find a seller near you, check out transfairusa.org. Or purchase from online suppliers such as Organic Bouquet (organicbouquet.com) or Organic Style (organicstyle.com) to ensure the growers have Veriflora certification. Both sites even donate a percentage of proceeds to an environmental cause!

Let mom know you how much you care about her AND the world around her!!
