If The Shoe Fits…

With the start of Spring comes a changing of the guard… in terms of wardrobe, anyway! I knew I wanted (ok I admit I wrote “needed” and then deleted it) a pair of feminine flats that I could wear with everything from jeans and a tank top to a cute cotton dress. And of course the shoes have to be vegan and eco-friendly.

So I went to Payless. WHAT?! Yep, Payless has a great brand of stylish eco-friendly shoes and accessories and all for under $30. Look for Zoe&Zac- you’ll find them in their shoe boxes made from recycled materials and soy-based ink. BINGO! Perfect for Thrifty Thursdays!!

Peace- It’s Not Just For Hippies

Welcome to another Time-Out Tuesday!  I just finished a book that I can’t sop thinking about: Being Peace by Thich Nhat Hanh. A Buddhist monk who was exiled from Vietnam after speaking out about the war, Mr. Hanh started Plum Village, a thriving Buddhist meditation center in France. He was also nominated by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for the Nobel Peace Prize, authored over 60 books, and spoken all over the world. The other day I read an Oprah Magazine and saw an interview she recently did with him as well (I mean it doesn’t get anymore “wow” than Oprah, right?).

I love Being Peace because it is both simply written and profoundly inspiring. The idea that most resonated with me is that we have the ability within ourselves to find happiness AND to spread peace and joy to everyone we know and the world at large.

Because without being peace, we cannot do anything for peace. If we cannot smile we cannot help other people to smile. If we are not peaceful, then we cannot contribute to the peace movement.

There are so many other gems in this book! I love his thoughts on compassion, understanding, love, and mindfulness. An easy read, I HIGHLY recommend taking time out and reading this book- I know I can’t wait to start it again!

Nifty Thrifty Goodness

It’s Thursday, which means it’s almost Friday, which means you’re almost to the weekend! Life is beautiful here in NYC! It’s going to be 70 degrees and sunny for three whole days! Yay!

I don’t know about you, but sunny weather makes me want to shop- which, of course, is no bueno on my bank account. To keep it all in balance,  I’ve dedicated Thursdays to “Thrifty Thursdays” and will post about fantastic products, stores, and websites that are green, cruelty-free, and not going to break our bank accounts.

Today’s post is about Priscilla Woolworth, heir to the Woolworth legacy, and dubbed “The Merchant of Greenness” in an article in Body + Soul Magazine. Her online store is priscillawoolworth.com and sells green and fair-trade goods. She’s even designed a few of them herself.

Take a look and share your thoughts! Thursdays just got even better!
