Meatless Make-Over
Happy Meatless Monday everyone! My good friend Michael Parrish DuDell has completely revamped his website VEGdaily.com. Instead of focusing on writing new content, the website now serves as a host for all vegetarian news!
Take a look, find a topic you like, try a recipe like the Cardamom-Peach Amazake Scones posted by Swell, and be inspired! Speaking of scones, this weekend I made Isa Chandra Moskowitz’ Blueberry Scones from her fantastic Vegan Brunch…. sooooo yummy! If you have never made scone before (like me prior to yesterday), I highly recommend getting a cooling rack so the bottoms of the scones don’t get too soft.
Happy Yummy Monday!
Meatless Monday
Happy Monday B.E.E. Gooders! In an effort to have a more consistently updated blog, I’ve decided to experiment with having a specific topic for each weekday. So get ready because the first day back to the grind is dedicated to Meatless Mondays!
Meatless Mondays is based on the notion that if everyone gave up meat for just one day the effect on the environment, animals, and our health would be profound. A wonderful resource is www.meatlessmonday.com. Take the pledge and each week they will email you with delicious recipes.
Each Monday here at BGN, I will blog about the benefits of giving up meat (even if just for today!) , include a recipe or two, and/or highlight people in the veggie movement.
So what are you waiting for? Check out meatlessmonday.com, take the pledge, and encourage those you love to do the same. Let’s change the world one day at a time!
P.S. Extra Karma points for anyone who wants to leave any comments with their favorite meatless recipes, restaurant suggestions, websites, etc. Let’s ENCOURAGE everyone to go meatless for just one day!!
March Madness
This past week has been one of the busiest I can remember. My dog Kenya had to go to the vet twice (once for stomach issues and once for getting bit by another dog at the dog park), I had my final classes at Om Wellness, my birthday, my boyfriend’s (Andreas) birthday (we’re a day apart but he’s three years older- go Pisces!), the shows and catching up with my coaching clients… not to mention getting outside to enjoy the first glimpses of spring here on the East Coast!
On Friday Andreas and I checked out a new organic vegan cafe in Chelsea called Terri. The place is so cute and perfect for picking up a sandwich, wrap, smoothie, or salad on the go. My favorite part is they use Daiya cheese (which can now be found in Whole Foods stores)- the only vegan cheese I know of that really melts. I got the Bacon Chedder Chicken Ranch Sandwich and Andreas had the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. To top it off we had the homemade ginger mint iced tea and the lemonade, respectively. And the co-owner Craig is so awesome! Walking off our delicious lunch, we headed down to the Union Square Farmers Market and then picked up some desserts before heading home.
Speaking of desserts my best friend Erin made me the most incredible cupcakes! No one could believe they were vegan! The cast and crew of “Time Stands Still” sang me “Happy Birthday” as they presented me with more desserts and when I got home Andreas had bought me a slice of decadent chocolate cake from one of our favorite vegan restaurants, Blossom. I also may or may not have celebrated my birthday with one or two mojitos from Cafe Iguana in between shows with about 30 of my awesome friends. Not wanting to leave Andreas out of his just desserts, I brought cupcakes from Babycakes for his birthday (which was celebrated with Earth Mother pizza from Two Boots and bowling with friends).
So with all those sweets in my system you will probably be amazed that I did my final Om Wellness presentation on…. Beating the Sugar Blues!! (I promise to blog all about sugar soon…. at least when I’m done detoxing from it!)
My off day from the show is Monday so Andreas and I went to see Alice In Wonderland in 3D at the IMAX and then went to the MOMA and got dual membership passes and saw the Tim Burton exhibit (Andreas is a long-time Tim Burton fan) before heading home and watching Beatlejuice (wow it’s a long time since I’ve seen that movie!!) until I left for another friend’s birthday celebration.
PHEW!! That was a crazy few days! But I’m having such a blast and enjoying the warmer weather. Life is GOOD. I hope you are too.
